Mediated electrochemical partial oxidation of toluene to benzaldehyde
The mediated anodic oxidation of toluene to benzaldehyde by redox mediators was studied using Mn3+/Mn2+ and Ce4+/Ce3+ systems in sulphuric acid. PbO2/Pb electrodes were used. The reaction was carried out in two steps. The spent electrolyte was regenerated after treatment by different techniques to obtain the maximum possible current efficiency during regeneration. ...

Fluidized bed: An efficient solid-fluid contacting device
Fluidized bed has vast applicability in the chemical process industries. Understanding and predicting the mechanisms governing the fluidized bed behaviour is of foremost importance not only for improvement of the operability of existing commercial system, but also for the development of new industrial processes. This article presents the review of manipulating the fluidization operation incorporating hydrodynamics besides the applications of fluidization using internals and advanced types of fluidization in brief. ...

Design of virtual instrumentation for efflux time (viscosity) measurement
In the present work, a virtual instrumentation for viscosity measurement with a clock of 2 MHz is developed in the laboratory using PCL 812 data acquisition card along with IBM compatible PC operated under windows98. A simple and inexpensive circuit has been designed to detect liquid passing at two different points in the Ostwald’s viscometer. The circuit uses an infrared emitter–sensor pair to detect the liquid passing two different points. Standard gates and Flip-Flops have been used to implement the logical function.

Membrane bioreactors for wastewater treatment: A review
With the current focus on water reuse projects and the role they play in the water cycle, the search for cost competitive advanced wastewater treatment technologies has never before been so important. The membrane bioreactor (MBR) process is an emerging advanced wastewater treatment technology that has been successfully applied at an ever-increasing number of locations around the world. In addition to their steady increase in number, MBR installations are also increasing in terms of scale. This paper describes the treatment of wastewater with membrane technology in view of its reuse for applications, which do not require potable water quality. ...

Lubricating Greases from Some Seed Oils
Lubricating greases have been prepared from soaps of Barium, Calcium, Aluminum Salts, Orange Tomato and Pumpkin seed oil fatty acids. These metallic soaps were analyzed for melting points and metal contents and then used for the preparation of lubricating greases with paraffin oils. The prepared grease and commercial grease samples were tested for consistency, dropping point and Synersis (after 30 days). The best greases were obtained from Calcium - Orange seed oil soap among the properties studied ...
